I guess for car owners is not a critical benefit to have self-driving –which explains how few Tesla owners have decided to pay thousands for the "Full Self Driving" option, additionally to the fact that Tesla self-driving tech sucks. But consider for instance Uber and Lyft: much more than a half of passenger payments go to the human driver, and Uber would like to have that income.

Big trucks have a similar situation, where about a third of transportation costs is due to truck drivers' payment. If the truck drives itself, transportation costs go way down.
